A neat way for Ultras to deal with kaiju in the Showa era was to cut them up, be it decapitation, slicing into two, three, or even nine pieces. For the most part these are unbelievably violent for today's standards, but many fans still love them. For a few examples, Ultraman segmented Red King II into three blocks, Ultraseven famously slashed off Eleking's head causing all that purple internal stuff to gush out, and Jack removing Gronken's limbs traumatically. Of course, there's Ace. Just to name a few victims of Ace's cutting techniques: Vakishim, Doragory, Sphinx, Barbaras and Jumbo King getting decapitated, King Kappa, Metron Jr. getting sliced vertically, the sad Bad Ballon losing his head and then getting his body split in two. There was a great deal of realism put into the scenes, such as Metron's guts flowing out, or painting things like bones in the wound. Continued from the post  Hunt for Kaiju Figures in Japan . Nakano Broadway is truly a haven for collectors of all types, with antiques, anime goods, and of course, tokusatsu merchandise. It blew my mind the first time I visited, to come so close to the rarest of kaiju figures. So many rare things!  Kikaider 01 and Kikaider These might burn massive holes in your pocket. 😭 Purple Rat and Blue Buffalo from Kikaider Jum Killer was overpriced The Red Ultraman ? Probably not. A reissue.  King Crab having a drink.  Spectreman Mask Alien Karly Candy toys Geed and Orb figures Galactron Mk 2 being a small figure really bothers me. Also, why did they shrink Maga Orochi? Well tat least they made Nova finally! Old Kamen Rider and Mirrorman trading cards Zone Fighter, Barom 1, Jumborg Ace, Inazuman, Megaloman etc etc etc

These were in a shop in Shibuya Ultraman Type C, Ultraseven, Ultraman Tiga, Ultraman Type A Goji! And these in Harajuku I might have bought them, but I was saving up for vinyl kaiju figures! 

Kamisori Demaaga appears to be quite an  ascended  form of Demaaga. Horoborus' figure has been released. He looks pretty interesting, pretty mammalian and kinda like a Digimon. Here are a couple of bad quality zoom ins of him. The second pic states his alias as 豪烈暴獣 "Brutal/Violent Beast". Also, why do I find an uncanny resemblace between him and Gukuru Shisa?  And of course, the mysterious Ultraman Orb Dark. His Orb Calibur has only a Darkness symbol on it. Also, in the lower left there's a girl called Saki holding a Gyro, I wonder what that's about.

For all the kaiju sofubi figure collectors out there, here's a little guide for finding them in Japan. Begin this journey if you dare. Let's start with... Akihabara There are several shops in Akihabara selling kaiju figures. Mandarake Complex  The banner says "World's Largest Collectors' Shop"  Apparently the largest collectors' shop in the world, it's full black facade is unmistakable and not difficult to find. Kaiju figures are sold at the 7th floor.  Some Tokusatsu books are on other levels Because it's an official collectors' store, things are sold at high prices, or at the very least, at accurate prices for their value. If you are thrifty like me, the cheapest they have is dumped in a basket for digging. The older Bullmarkish figures sell for over 10000 yen so the most I could get were photos of them... Previously, I wrote some thoughts on Tsuburaya Production's upcoming Ultra series , and the names on the Ultras. The names of the heroes have been confirmed from a poster to indeed be Ultraman Rosso and Ultraman Blu . The series is titled   Ultraman R/B , strangely pronounced "Ultraman Rube"  ( ウルトラマン ルーブ Urutoraman Rūbu), which was the source of the strange "Lube" name. Ultraman Rosso is Ultraman Blu's elder brother, who seems to have his default form as Flame while Blu has his default form as Aqua. If they were both in the same form I guess the only way to tell the difference between them is Rosso's horns.  The series gimmick is for the Ultras to turn into different forms using medal-like R/B Crystals  (ルーブクリスタルスRūbu Kurisutarusu ) , each with a different Ultra warrior or kaiju that having an element associated with them.  Rosso's Crystals have a pair of horns while Blu's only has one horn. There were great superhero shows. There were horrible superhero shows. And then, there is VR Man. VR Man was a superhero drama produced by Mediacorp and aired in 1998. It was an extremely unusual genre for Singaporean dramas. VR Man was said to be "Singapore's first superhero". Now the show is remembered and recognised even by those who have not watched it, but mostly due to it's notoriety. The basic story is as follows. A computer engineer, Alex Foo, gets pushed off the railings in a shopping mall and falls several stories. He is taken to be experimented on with a procedure that had killed all previous subjects. He survives, and gains the power to project virtual reality objects using a thing called the Solidifier. This is called "virping" (virtual reality projection) for short, and also because his power had to have a "cool" name for the sake of it.
